Young girl's dream of being chased by a microbe on a New York train.

The Paramecium, The Budding Scientist, and the #5 Train

In the heart of the Bronx, amidst the bustling streets and vibrant culture, lived a young girl who loved to read. Her love for books began as a tender flame, carefully nurtured by her family through a thoughtful selection of literature. Some of her favorite reading materials in elementary school included books from the Just Ask Series by Chris Arvetis. These insightful books, addressing various topics with simplicity and warmth, became a lifeline connecting her to knowledge and new perspectives. When she immigrated to the United States from the Caribbean, the bustling city opened new chapters for her literary exploration. Here she discovered a profound interest in biology during her high school years. The vivid descriptions in her textbooks and the fascinating world of living organisms captured her imagination, turning her love of books into a passion for the biological sciences.

One night, after a lesson on the four types of microbes, she dreamt that she was chased by a giant paramecium. The bustling New York City subway station served as an unlikely stage for this peculiar pursuit, with the giant single-celled microorganism hot on her heels as she leapt onto the #5 train at Baychester Avenue. The vivid imagery of the dream left her bewildered yet intrigued, sparking a budding fascination with the microscopic world. As she awoke, the echoes of the dream remained, leaving her with a lingering curiosity about biology that would shape her interests and pursuits for years to come.

Every biology class after that dream became an adventure, a chance to explore the world within. She delved into her studies with enthusiasm, seeking to understand the intricacies of cells, organisms, and the interconnected systems that made life possible. As she immersed herself in the scientific wonders, she discovered a passion for biology that she never knew existed. The dream that once puzzled her became a metaphor for her journey of self-discovery. The paramecium chasing her symbolized her pursuit of knowledge, always striving to stay ahead, to overcome challenges, and to grow beyond the limitations she once perceived.

Many years have gone by since this young girl’s years in high school and while the paramecium, the #5 train, and the chase are distant memories, the lessons she learned about resilience, curiosity, and the pursuit of dreams have remained.  Now as the founder of Copper Key Sciences, her story is a testament to the transformative power of education and the pursuit of one's dreams.
